With the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andris Nelsons

From April 27, Anne-Sophie Mutter will perform the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and Nostalghia on four nights in Boston – together with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and conductor Andris Nelsons. The Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto has been recorded twice so far by the artist: a 1988 recording with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan was followed by another with the Vienna Philharmonic and Sir André Previn in 2004.

The exceptional violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter was eighteen years old, when she recorded the Erste Violinkonzert by Max Bruch with the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Herbert von Karajan in 1981; the recording has become legendary. The 1866-68 resulting Violin Concerto in G minor is deemed as successful work of the Cologne composer Max Bruch and thanks to its beautiful sound and expressive melody, it has always been very popular since then. Together with the Philharmonia Zurich and Fabio Luisi, Anne-Sophie Mutter dedicates herself to this work again on tour which takes the artists from May 12th through Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg.

But also new and contemporary music are a concern for the violinist: At the beginning of the concert she interprets Toru Takemitsu Nostalghia (1987), a work for violin and strings, dedicated to the memory of the famous Soviet filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky.

A milestone of the symphonic repertoire, the Symphony no. 4 in E Minor by Johannes Brahms, is heard in the second half of the concert.

Benefit Concert for Integration Projects in Leipzig

Together with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Herbert Blomstedt

Anne-Sophie Mutter is not only a singular artist personality, she is also constantly active in questions of education policy. Thus, last year at Leipzig’s Moritzbastei, the violinist played a benefit concert in aid of the project “Integration durch Bildung” (“Integration through Education”) of the Leipzig Refugee Council. To Anne-Sophie Mutter, it is a socio-political necessity that refugees “are given a chance at the best possible integration within their new homeland” and a matter of course that “ they need all our support and empathy to reach this goal”. Therefore, Anne-Sophie Mutter suggested that the revenue generated by the Gewandhaus Orchestra’s Grand Concert under the baton of Herbert Blomstedt on March 18, 2017 should be donated to “Integration through Education e.V.” and “Interaction Leipzig e.V.”. The donated sum of 60,000 Euros was divided and each project received half. The artists did not take any fees; the Gewandhaus Orchestra was not playing as part of its regular services. “Please join our efforts by helping with a donation,” the violinist encourages further supporters. MORE [+]
