Anne-Sophie Mutter ends her presidency German Cancer Aid thanks its president

2 Jul 2025 – Anne-Sophie Mutter has stepped down from her position as President of German Cancer Aid on June 30, 2025 in order to devote more time to her numerous international musical engagements as well as her own foundation. German Cancer Aid would like to thank the world-famous violinist for her great commitment to people with cancer. Since April 2021, she has represented the charitable organization in public and given courage and hope to those affected.

"During my presidency, I have been able to get to know many extraordinary people who all share a common goal: to help people with cancer and to take the horror out of cancer. It has always filled me with deep gratitude to be a part of this citizens' movement against cancer, which was founded by Mildred Scheel," says Anne-Sophie Mutter. "Next year, I will have been on the concert stage for 50 years. This anniversary brings with it many additional commitments for me - both nationally and internationally. There will also be numerous world premieres over the next two years - in addition to charity concerts and work for my own foundation. For this reason, I can no longer fulfill my duties as President of German Cancer Aid in the demanding way I would like to. After careful consideration, I have therefore decided with a heavy heart to resign."

Professor Dr. Charlotte Niemeyer, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of German Cancer Aid: "We respect Anne-Sophie Mutter's decision and regret it at the same time. Anne-Sophie Mutter has convincingly and with great empathy brought the concerns of German Cancer Aid to society and the media and with her high profile has helped to bring cancer further out of the taboo zone - in the spirit of our founder Mildred Scheel. On behalf of German Cancer Aid, I would like to thank her for her great commitment over the past four years - and especially in our anniversary year 2024. We wish her every success in her future endeavors."

It has not yet been decided who will succeed Anne-Sophie Mutter.
