The ceremonious presentation of the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of a Grand Officer to Anne-Sophie Mutter was undertaken by the Ambassador of Romania, H.E. Emil Hurezeanu – as a “symbol of high regard for the dedication and talent of her entire musical career, as well as the friendship she has shown Romania in her activities for socially disadvantaged categories”.
For almost 20 years, the world-famous violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter has supported children’s homes in Romania, mainly in Orlat and Victoria. On September 9, the day after her concert with the Pittsburgh Orchestra at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest, she visited the children’s home in Victoria in order to see the local developments personally. At the end of the 1990s she had financed an annex to the institution’s building, built with the help of donations and revenue from a benefit concert. On October 28, 2008, another part of the building had been restored, using funds raised via a benefit concert, and was opened in the presence of the violinist.
Anne-Sophie Mutter has also paid for the children’s Christmas and Easter presents every year since 2007, thereby documenting how much the children have meant to her for many years now. Significantly, she always speaks of “her” children when referring to them.
