With Pittsburgh Symphony and Manfred Honeck Mendelssohn Violin Concerto

14 Aug 2024 – “It’s a stroke of genius, this music is immortal,” Anne-Sophie Mutter enthused about Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto back in 2009. The star violinist is not alone in this opinion: since its premiere in Leipzig on 13 March 1845, the captivating work has delighted performers and audiences alike – no wonder, given the abundance of musical beauty it offers.

Together with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and its music director Manfred Honeck, Anne-Sophie Mutter will perform in August and September 2024 the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto at a total of six venues: At the festive season opener in Dortmund, followed by Düsseldorf, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the season opener in Cologne, at the Rheingau Music Festival in Wiesbaden and the season opener at the Vienna Konzerthaus.

The Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck has been at the helm of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and will devote himself to the 1st or 5th Symphony of his compatriot Gustav Mahler after the interval.

In Cologne, Wiesbaden and Vienna, the concert will also open with the brilliant short fanfare ‘Short Ride in a Fast Machine’ by John Adams, which was premiered by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 1986.

31 August: Dortmund

1 September: Düsseldorf

3 September: Hamburg

5 September: Cologne

6 September: Rheingau Musik Festival

7 September: Vienna
