Enabling community through music
“Anne-Sophie Mutter has been dedicated, focussed and persistent in her commitment to the common good for decades, for the common good,” said the Minister President. “She is passionately interested in others. Her music is about creating encounters. In doing so, she enables community in which people can experience themselves as part of a greater whole - regardless of where they come from and what characterises them,” said Kretschmann. He drew a comparison with liberal democracy, which is also about listening, learning from each other and creating meaning.
Kretschmann also emphasised her commitment to the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation for young, highly talented musicians. In addition, she repeatedly takes a stand on social issues, such as the coronavirus crisis or climate and species protection. Thus for example, in 2024 she supported the “Day of Nature Conservation” launched by the Baden-Württemberg “Biodiversity Day” launched by the Baden-Württemberg Nature Conservation Association. And she regularly gives benefit concerts to help people in need.
The Staufer Medal is a special, personal honour awarded by the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg for services to the state and its people. The Staufer Medal, which was created in 1977, is usually awarded in silver, in rare cases also in gold.
