Music by John Williams Königsplatz Open-Air Concert on ZDF

23 Sep 2019 – On October 3, 2019 at 11:40 pm, the ZDF will broadcast a concert recording of the Königsplatz open-air concert on September 14: Anne-Sophie Mutter plays music by the great film composer John Williams. The concert on Munich’s Königsplatz was her first open-air appearance ever. The programme included soundtracks from international blockbusters such as “Harry Potter”, “Dracula”, “Superman”, “Jurassic Park” and of course “Star Wars”.

One special feature of the concert was that John Williams rearranged many of his compositions especially for Anne-Sophie Mutter.

The exceptional violinist is always good for a surprise. Recently, it was her club concerts in Berlin’s nightlife spots, which were attended by many young people – now it is new musical terrain she is breaking during her open-air premiere. There are good reasons for this, as she has been friends with the multiple Oscar and Grammy winner John Williams for many years.

“There is only one John Williams,” Anne-Sophie Mutter declares. “His works are incomparable. When I see one of his movies and there is a violin or cello part in the music, I think every time how much I would like to play that myself! And now I have his wonderful arrangements of all these iconic film scores.” To Williams, Anne-Sophie Mutter is “the greatest violinist Germany has produced in the past 100 years!” During the concert on Munich’s Königsplatz, Anne-Sophie Mutter was accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of David Newman.
