March 17 at Konzerthaus Dortmund Benefit Concert for Ukraine

4 Mar 2022 – The war in Ukraine is an attack on peace in the heart of Europe, causing unspeakable suffering. In order to support people in this catastrophic situation, the Konzerthaus Dortmund cooperates with the Piano Festival Ruhr to present a benefit concert on March 17. The high-carat cast includes Anne-Sophie Mutter, Pablo Ferrández and Yefim Bronfman, who perform with the Kölner Kammerorchester under Christoph Poppen, foregoing their fees.

Thanks to the Anja Fichte Foundation and the RAG Foundation, which are covering the concert’s incidental expenses, 100% of the ticket revenues can be donated to Save the Children Germany e.V. The world’s largest independent children’s rights organization gives important humanitarian aid to children and families in need. This includes psychological and social support, the distribution of clothing and hygiene sets and ensuring food supplies and medical help. The Prime Minister of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst, has agreed to be the patron of this benefit concert.

»Everyone can and must help now. Words alone are not enough. This is a terrible humanitarian catastrophe. We must stand with the people in Ukraine. From the bottom of my heart, I ask you to donate to Save the Children, so that as many children in Ukraine and the neighbouring countries can be helped,« Anne-Sophie Mutter says.

Raphael von Hoensbroech, artistic director of the Konzerthaus Dortmund, states: »I have supported emergency aid projects in Ukraine for many years, and I am familiar with the suffering from my visits. I can hardly believe what is happening there at the moment, and am deeply worried about the people. Let us send a strong signal for peace with this concert, while actively supporting families in existential need.«

Franz Xaver Ohnesorg, artistic director of the Piano Festival Ruhr, also calls for solidarity: »We all deeply feel the pain of the Ukrainian families who are losing their homeland so cruelly. In this terrible situation, we would like to help them with our joint concert, mitigating their suffering at least a little bit by donating the revenues. I thank all those supporting our efforts by buying tickets!«

The programme of the benefit concert includes excerpts from »Moments of memory« by the Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov, Beethoven’s Overture to »Egmont« and his famous Triple Concerto. The Konzerthaus is able to fill the hall to capacity for this event; the obligation to wear a facemask and the 2G+ rule continue to apply. Ticket sales begin on March 4 and will be handled exclusively by the Konzerthaus Dortmund, online at www.konzerthaus-dortmund.de. In-person purchases can be made at the Ticketing Office of the Konzerthaus Dortmund at Ludwigstraße / corner of Reinoldistraße in 44135 Dortmund, or by calling +49 231 696 200.

In addition, on the evening itself, donations to Save the Children can be made at the venue, online via https://www.savethechildren.de/spenden/ukraine-asm-d// or via wire transfer. Please use the reference »Dortmund for Ukraine« and the following bank account:
