29 Aug 2022 – On August 27, 2022 Thomas Adès celebrated the high point of his tenure as composer-in-residence at the Lucerne Festival: under the composer’s baton, Anne-Sophie Mutter and the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra gave the world performance of the new work «Air». «Air», conceived by Adès as an «extended aria» describing «one large arch», was commissioned by the series «Roche Commissions» for the Lucerne Festival; the co-commissioners are Anne-Sophie Mutter, Carnegie Hall and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
