So far she has given world premieres of 34 works \u2013 Thomas Ad\u00e8s, Unsuk Chin, Sebastian Currier, Aftab Darvishi, Henri Dutilleux, Sofia Gubaidulina, Witold Lutoslawski, Norbert Moret, Krzysztof Penderecki, Sir Andr\u00e9 Previn, Wolfgang Rihm, J\u00f6rg Widmann and John Williams have all composed for Anne-Sophie Mutter. Anne-Sophie Mutter dedicates herself to supporting tomorrow\u2019s musical elite and numerous benefit projects. Since January 2022 she joins the foundation board of the Lucerne Festival.<\/p>\n
In the autumn of 1997 she founded the Association of Friends of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation e.V., to which the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation was added in 2008. These two charitable institutions provide support for the scholarship recipients, support which is tailored to the fellows\u2019 individual needs. Since 2011, Anne-Sophie Mutter has regularly shared the spotlight on stage with her ensemble of fellows, Mutter\u2019s Virtuosi.<\/p>\n

Concerts 2025\/2026<\/strong><\/h3>\nIn the season 2025\/2026 – the year of her 50th anniversary on stage in Lucerne \u2013 she once again reflects her musical versatility and her unrivalled standing in the world of classical music with performances in Europe, Far East and North America. With world premieres by Aftab Darvishi, Max Richter and John Williams she is once again introducing new repertoire to her audience and looking back on her musical achievements over the past 50 years with a variety of concert programs.<\/p>\n
In collaboration with Alpha Classics, she is releasing a series of works written for her under the name ASM Forte Forward, which she has not yet recorded. The first album in the series, East Meets West, will be released on 27 March 2026 and features works by Darvishi, Chin, Ad\u00e8s and Widmann, while Deutsche Grammophon is honouring her anniversary with a comprehensive catalogue initiative spanning 40 years of collaboration.<\/p>\n
In January 2026 ASM will begin the year of her 50th stage anniversary in Lucerne with an Asian tour to Taiwan and Hong Kong. Together with Lina Gonz\u00e1les-Granados she will bring John Williams’ Violin Concerto No. 2, which the great master dedicated to her, to Asia, where she will also perform film themes arranged especially for her with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra Taiwan.<\/p>\n
The great romantic violin repertoire is a must in this anniversary year. The violinist is collaborating with the W\u00fcrth Philharmonic Orchestra in K\u00fcnzelsau for the first time under the baton of Claudio Vandelli performing P.I. Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto. The same work will be performed together with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Karina Canallakis in a concert in London as well as on the following tour in Europe.<\/p>\n
In Israel, Mutter will play Beethoven’s Violin Concerto together with the Israel Philharmonic conducted by Lahav Shani. <\/p>\n
An extensive tour to many German cities will conclude the 2025\/2026 season. The program includes Mozart violin concertos, Andr\u00e9 Previn’s 2nd Violin Concerto with two harpsichord interludes, which she premiered and which the composer dedicated to her, as well as Aftab Darvishi’s \u201cLikoo,\u201d a work commissioned by the violinist for solo violin, which premiered in April 2025 is exemplary of Anne-Sophie Mutter’s musical work over the past five decades: it combines the great violin literature of the past with modern and contemporary repertoire. Anne-Sophie Mutter conducts the Berlin Baroque Soloists directly from her violin.<\/p>\n
An anniversary residency at the Lucerne Festival will follow in August 2026. The anniversary celebrations will begin with an artist talk in Meggen, the place where she made her debut in 1976. This will be followed by two concerts: Anne-Sophie Mutter will conduct the Lucerne Festival Orchestra from her violin, performing \u2018Likoo\u2019 by Aftab Darvishi and violin concertos by Andr\u00e9 Previn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Krzysztof Penderecki’s Second Violin Concerto \u2018Metamorphosen\u2019, another central work in her oeuvre, is also on the programme. Discography<\/strong><\/h3>\nHer first recording was released in 1978: Mozart\u2019s Violin Concerti Nos. 3 and 5 with Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic. Since then she has made numerous recordings, for which Anne-Sophie Mutter has received four Grammies\u00ae, nine Echo Classic Awards, the German Recording Award, the Record Academy Prize, the Grand Prix du Disque and the International Phono Award.<\/p>\n
The following contains an overview of the past 15 years: On the occasion of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\u2019s 250th birthday in 2006, Anne-Sophie Mutter presented new recordings of Mozart\u2019s complete major compositions for violin.<\/p>\n
In September 2008 her recording of Gubaidulina\u2019s Violin Concerto In tempus praesens as well as the Bach Violin Concerti in A-Minor and E-Major was released.
\nDuring the Mendelssohn anniversary year of 2009, Anne-Sophie Mutter paid very personal homage to the composer, uniting solo concerto repertoire and chamber music on CD and DVD: the Violin Sonata in F-Major written in 1838, the Piano Trio in D-Minor completed a year later, and the Violin Concerto in E-Minor of 1845.
\nMarch 2010 saw the release of Anne-Sophie Mutter\u2019s recording of the Brahms Violin Sonatas, performed with Lambert Orkis. <\/p>\n
For her 35-year stage anniversary in 2011, Deutsche Grammophon released a comprehensive box set with all of the artist\u2019s DG recordings, extensive documentary material and as-yet unpublished rarities. At the same time, an album of first recordings of pieces dedicated to the violinist by Wolfgang Rihm, Sebastian Currier and Krzysztof Penderecki appeared.<\/p>\n
In October 2013 Anne-Sophie Mutter presented her first recording of the Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Violin Concerto with conductor Manfred Honeck and the Berlin Philharmonic.
\nIn May 2014 a double CD with recordings by Mutter and Orkis followed, commemorating the 25th anniversary of their collaboration: The Silver Album featuring the first recordings of Penderecki\u2019s La Follia and Previn\u2019s Violin Sonata No. 2.<\/p>\n
The live recording Anne-Sophie Mutter \u2013 Live from Yellow Lounge of her club performance in Berlin was released on CD, vinyl, DVD and Blu-ray disc on August 28, 2015. This was the first live recording ever from a Yellow Lounge. On the podium at Neue Heimat Berlin, Anne-Sophie Mutter was joined by her long-standing piano accompanist Lambert Orkis, \u201cMutter\u2019s Virtuosi\u201d and the harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani. The programme covered three centuries of classical music \u2013 from Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi to George Gershwin and John Williams \u2013 a combination chosen especially by Anne-Sophie Mutter for the club evenings.<\/p>\n
Commemorating the 40-year stage anniversary of the charismatic artist, Deutsche Grammophon assembled the double CD Mutterissimo \u2013 The Art of Anne-Sophie Mutter, released in 2016. It assembles the highlights of her multi-faceted discography \u2013 personally selected by Anne-Sophie Mutter herself and focusing primarily on the past two decades of her impressive career.<\/p>\n
In November 2017, Anne-Sophie Mutter and Daniil Trifonov released their first joint album, focusing on one of the most famous works in all the classical repertoire. Together with Hwayoon Lee, Maximilian Hornung and Roman Patkol\u00f3, they recorded Schubert\u2019s Piano Quintet in A-major, generally known as the \u201cTrout Quintet\u201d. The programme also included Schubert\u2019s Notturno, a masterful late work for violin, cello and piano, as well as his songs St\u00e4ndchen and Ave Maria, arranged for violin and piano.
\nKrzysztof Penderecki\u2019s 85th birthday was honoured by Deutsche Grammophon in 2018 with a double album including all the works he has dedicated to Anne-Sophie Mutter, including her first recording of the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2: a sensitive and touching homage by the violinist to her musical friend and companion.<\/p>\n
In 2018, Deutsche Grammophon also commemorated the 40-year anniversary of Anne-Sophie Mutter\u2019s first recording by re-releasing her earliest concerto recordings in a deluxe hardcover edition entitled The Early Years \u2013 featuring violin concerti by Mozart (Nos. 3 and 5), Beethoven, Bruch and Mendelssohn. Thanks to the new, high-resolution audio format 2.2 24bit\/192kHz, the listener has the impression of being in the violinist\u2019s immediate vicinity.<\/p>\n
In August 2019, Across the Stars, her album with some of the most brilliant works by the composer and multiple Oscar-winner John Williams, was released, for which Williams adapted most of the recorded works especially for her.<\/p>\n
Anne-Sophie Mutter, Yo-Yo Ma and Daniel Barenboim recorded Beethoven\u2019s Triple Concerto together, celebrating the composer\u2019s 250th anniversary. The album also commemorates the 20-year anniversary of the founding of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. It was released on May 8, 2020, 40 years after the legendary recording of the Triple Concerto by Anne-Sophie Mutter and Yo-Yo Ma under Herbert von Karajan\u2019s baton.<\/p>\n
In August 2020 it was followed by John Williams in Vienna: the legendary American film composer conducted the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time in January 2020; the recording documents this historical performance of film history milestones. For the Musikverein audience, Anne-Sophie Mutter performed a selection of the virtuoso adaptations which Williams created especially for her, including Hedwig\u2019s Theme from Harry Potter, Devil\u2019s Dance from The Witches of Eastwick and the theme from Sabrina. In February 2021 the so-called \u201clive edition\u201d of this concert appeared, including six bonus tracks and John Williams\u2019 remarks from the podium, introducing each work on the Viennese programme.<\/p>\n
\u201cComposed especially for Anne-Sophie Mutter\u201d is the inscription John Williams added to his Violin Concerto No. 2, which the two of them premiered together on July 24, 2021 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In September 2021 the new work was recorded with the same cast as its world premiere, complemented by several new film themes. This CD was released in June 2022.<\/p>\n
November 2022 saw the release of a recording of the Double Concerto by Johannes Brahms with the cellist Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Manfred Honeck, as well as Clara Schumann\u2019s Piano Trio with the pianist Lambert Orkis, her long-time musical partner and friend.<\/p>\n
The first album of her Foundation\u2019s ensemble, \u201cMutter\u2019s Virtuosi\u201d, was released in November 2023. As part of a European tour, Anne-Sophie Mutter and her Virtuosi ensemble gave an impressive performance at Vienna\u2019s Musikverein, forming the basis of this versatile and thoughtful album of music by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Bologne, Andr\u00e9 Previn and John Williams.<\/p>\n
In March 2026, the album East Meets West, the first in their ASM Forte Forward series in collaboration with the Alpha Classics label, will be released. It features compositions by Aftab Darvishi, Unsuk Chin, J\u00f6rg Widmann and Thomas Ad\u00e8s. Awards<\/strong><\/h3>\nIn September 2025, Anne-Sophie Mutter received the Enescu Festival Award for Excellence in Bucharest and the Wolfgang Sch\u00fcssel Prize in Salzburg. In 2023, the violinist received the Ruhr Piano Festival Prize, and the Royal Philharmonic Society awarded her its Gold Medal. The Krzysztof Penderecki Music Academy in Cracow bestowed an honorary doctorate on her in 2022.<\/p>\n
In 2019, Anne-Sophie Mutter was honoured to receive the Praemium Imperiale in the music category; she received the 2019 Polar Music Prize. Poland awarded the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for Cultural Achievements to Anne-Sophie Mutter in 2018, making her the first German artist to receive such an honour.<\/p>\n
In 2018 the violinist was named an honorary member of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
In 2017 Romania awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of a Grand Officer to Anne-Sophie Mutter and France honoured her by presenting her with the insignia of a Commander of the French Order of the Arts and Literature.<\/p>\n

Sie hat bislang 32 Werke<\/a>\u00a0uraufgef\u00fchrt \u2013 Thomas Ad\u00e8s, Unsuk Chin, Sebastian Currier, Aftab Darvishi, Henri Dutilleux, Sofia Gubaidulina, Witold Lutoslawski, Norbert Moret, Krzysztof Penderecki, Sir Andr\u00e9 Previn, Wolfgang Rihm, J\u00f6rg Widmann und John Williams haben f\u00fcr Anne-Sophie Mutter komponiert.<\/p>Dar\u00fcber hinaus widmet sie sich der F\u00f6rderung musikalischen Spitzennachwuchses und zahlreichen Benefizprojekten. Seit Januar 2022 geh\u00f6rt sie dem Stiftungsrat von Lucerne Festival an. Konzerte 2025<\/strong><\/h3>2025 \u2013 das Jahr vor ihrem 50-j\u00e4hrigen Luzern B\u00fchnenjubil\u00e4um \u2013 spiegelt mit Auftritten in Europa und Nordamerika erneut die musikalische Vielseitigkeit der Violinistin und ihren beispiellosen Rang in der Welt der klassischen Musik wider. Mit zwei Urauff\u00fchrungen von Aftab Darvishi sowie Max Richter stellt Sie ihrem Publikum wiederum neues Repertoire vor.<\/p>
Im April gastiert Mutter in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Lambert Orkis das 37. Jahr ihrer musikalischen Zusammenarbeit einl\u00e4utet. Auf dem Programm stehen Werke von Aftab Darvishi, Mozart, Respighi, Schubert und Clara Schumann: Darvishis neues Werk \u201eLikoo\u201c f\u00fcr Solovioline \u2013 von der Geigerin beauftragt und ihr gewidmet \u2013 erlebt seine Urauff\u00fchrung am 3. April in der Carnegie Hall und ist bei den anschlie\u00dfenden Konzerten Bestandteil des Rezital-Programms in diesem Jahr. Dies ist Mutters erste Urauff\u00fchrung eines Werkes einer iranischen Komponistin. In den kommenden Jahren wird Mutter weiteres Repertoire aus diesem Kulturkreis in ihr Programm aufnehmen.<\/p>
Das Alban Berg Violinkonzert \u201eDem Andenken eines Engels\u201c f\u00fchrt Mutter \u2013 ebenfalls im April \u2013 an zwei Spielst\u00e4tten mit jeweils anderen musikalischen Partnern auf: In Sofia mit dem Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra und dem Dirigenten Michel Tabachnik und in Berlin mit der Staatskapelle Berlin unter der Leitung von Simone Young.<\/p>
Im Anschluss daran konzertiert sie wieder in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Yefim Bronfman und dem Cellisten Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez zwei Schwergewichte der Klaviertrio Literatur auf die B\u00fchne bringt: Beethovens \u201eErzherzogtrio\u201c sowie Tschaikowskis Meisterwerk in a-Moll, op. 50. Dieses Repertoire spielt Mutter auch in Europa \u2013 im Mai mit der Pianistin Lauma Skride und dem Cellisten Lionell Martin, einem Stipendiaten ihrer Stiftung, sowie im Oktober erneut mit Bronfman und Ferr\u00e1ndez.<\/p>
Mit Ferr\u00e1ndez \u2013 ebenfalls Stipendiat der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung \u2013 f\u00fchrt sie im Juni au\u00dferdem das Brahms Doppelkonzert auf: In Monaco mit dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo unter der Leitung von Kazuki Yamada. Dieses Werk haben Ferr\u00e1ndez und Mutter 2022 eingespielt, Manfred Honeck dirigierte dabei die Czech Philharmonic.<\/p>
Im Juli beginnt eine umfangreiche Europa-Tournee mit John Williams\u2019 Violinkonzert Nr. 2 sowie ausgew\u00e4hlten Filmthemen. Das Royal Philharmonic Orchestra begleitet Mutter dabei sowohl bei zahlreichen Open Air Konzerten wie auch in den Konzerts\u00e4len; die erste Tourneeh\u00e4lfte dirigiert die junge s\u00fcdamerikanische Dirigentin Lina Gonz\u00e1lez-Granado, danach kommt Vasily Petrenko ans Pult.<\/p>
Thomas Ad\u00e8s\u2019 \u201eAir \u2013 Homage to Sibelius\u201c, die der Komponist der Geigerin gewidmet hat und die in Rum\u00e4nien sowie Frankreich erstmals zu h\u00f6ren sein wird, sowie Mozarts Violinkonzert Nr. 1 in B-Dur KV207 spielt Mutter im September: In Bukarest und Paris leitet Cristian Macelaru das Orchestre National de France.<\/p>
Ihre weiteren Urauff\u00fchrungen des Jahres 2025 pr\u00e4sentiert Mutter bei der \u201eHommage an Johann Strauss\u201c am 25. Oktober im Wiener Musikverein \u2013 mit einem Werk von Max Richter f\u00fcr Violine und Orchester, einer Bearbeitung einer Strau\u00df-Komposition, sowie einem weiteren Werk.<\/p>
Beim Benefizkonzert f\u00fcr das Mendelssohn-Haus im November spielt Mutter mit Elena Bashkirova sowie erneut Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez \u2013 bei Musik von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Fanny Hensel, Clara und Robert Schumann.<\/p>

Auszeichnungen<\/strong><\/h3>Im Februar 2025 wurde Anne-Sophie Mutter vom Baden-W\u00fcrttembergischen Ministerpr\u00e4sidenten Winfried Kretschmann mit der Gro\u00dfen Staufermedaille in Gold ausgezeichnet. 2023 erhielt sie den Preis des Klavier-Festivals Ruhr und die Royal Philharmonic Society zeichnete die Violinistin mit der Goldmedaille aus.<\/p>
Die Krzysztof-Penderecki-Musikakademie Krakau verlieh ihr 2022 die Ehrendoktorw\u00fcrde. 2019 wurde Mutter mit dem Praemium Imperiale in der Kategorie Musik ausgezeichnet; im Juni erhielt sie den Polar-Musikpreis. Polen verlieh ihr 2018 als erste deutsche K\u00fcnstlerin die Gloria-Artis-Medaille f\u00fcr kulturelle Verdienste in Gold. Im Februar 2018 wurde die Geigerin zum Ehrenmitglied der Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia ernannt.<\/p>
Rum\u00e4nien verlieh Mutter 2017 den Kulturverdienstorden im Rang eines Gro\u00dfoffiziers; im gleichen Jahr ehrte sie Frankreich mit der Verleihung der Insignien eines Kommandeurs im franz\u00f6sischen Orden der K\u00fcnste und der Literatur. 2016 zeichnete sie das spanische Ministerium f\u00fcr Bildung, Kultur und Sport mit der \u201eMedalla de oro al M\u00e9rito en las Bellas Artes\u201c aus.<\/p>
2015 wurde Anne-Sophie Mutter zum Honorary Fellow des Keble College der University of Oxford ernannt. 2013 wurde sie ausl\u00e4ndisches Ehrenmitglied der American Academy of Arts & Sciences, nachdem sie im Januar mit dem Orden der Lutoslawski Gesellschaft (Warschau) ausgezeichnet worden war. 2012 verlieh ihr der Atlantic Council den Distinguished Artistic Leadership Award.<\/p>

Discography<\/strong><\/h3>\nHer first recording was released in 1978: Mozart\u2019s Violin Concerti Nos. 3 and 5 with Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic. Since then she has made numerous recordings, for which Anne-Sophie Mutter has received four Grammies\u00ae, nine Echo Classic Awards, the German Recording Award, the Record Academy Prize, the Grand Prix du Disque and the International Phono Award.<\/p>\n
The following contains an overview of the past 15 years: On the occasion of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\u2019s 250th birthday in 2006, Anne-Sophie Mutter presented new recordings of Mozart\u2019s complete major compositions for violin.<\/p>\n
In September 2008 her recording of Gubaidulina\u2019s Violin Concerto In tempus praesens as well as the Bach Violin Concerti in A-Minor and E-Major was released.
\nDuring the Mendelssohn anniversary year of 2009, Anne-Sophie Mutter paid very personal homage to the composer, uniting solo concerto repertoire and chamber music on CD and DVD: the Violin Sonata in F-Major written in 1838, the Piano Trio in D-Minor completed a year later, and the Violin Concerto in E-Minor of 1845.
\nMarch 2010 saw the release of Anne-Sophie Mutter\u2019s recording of the Brahms Violin Sonatas, performed with Lambert Orkis. <\/p>\n
For her 35-year stage anniversary in 2011, Deutsche Grammophon released a comprehensive box set with all of the artist\u2019s DG recordings, extensive documentary material and as-yet unpublished rarities. At the same time, an album of first recordings of pieces dedicated to the violinist by Wolfgang Rihm, Sebastian Currier and Krzysztof Penderecki appeared.<\/p>\n
In October 2013 Anne-Sophie Mutter presented her first recording of the Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Violin Concerto with conductor Manfred Honeck and the Berlin Philharmonic.
\nIn May 2014 a double CD with recordings by Mutter and Orkis followed, commemorating the 25th anniversary of their collaboration: The Silver Album featuring the first recordings of Penderecki\u2019s La Follia and Previn\u2019s Violin Sonata No. 2.<\/p>\n
The live recording Anne-Sophie Mutter \u2013 Live from Yellow Lounge of her club performance in Berlin was released on CD, vinyl, DVD and Blu-ray disc on August 28, 2015. This was the first live recording ever from a Yellow Lounge. On the podium at Neue Heimat Berlin, Anne-Sophie Mutter was joined by her long-standing piano accompanist Lambert Orkis, \u201cMutter\u2019s Virtuosi\u201d and the harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani. The programme covered three centuries of classical music \u2013 from Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi to George Gershwin and John Williams \u2013 a combination chosen especially by Anne-Sophie Mutter for the club evenings.<\/p>\n
Commemorating the 40-year stage anniversary of the charismatic artist, Deutsche Grammophon assembled the double CD Mutterissimo \u2013 The Art of Anne-Sophie Mutter, released in 2016. It assembles the highlights of her multi-faceted discography \u2013 personally selected by Anne-Sophie Mutter herself and focusing primarily on the past two decades of her impressive career.<\/p>\n
In November 2017, Anne-Sophie Mutter and Daniil Trifonov released their first joint album, focusing on one of the most famous works in all the classical repertoire. Together with Hwayoon Lee, Maximilian Hornung and Roman Patkol\u00f3, they recorded Schubert\u2019s Piano Quintet in A-major, generally known as the \u201cTrout Quintet\u201d. The programme also included Schubert\u2019s Notturno, a masterful late work for violin, cello and piano, as well as his songs St\u00e4ndchen and Ave Maria, arranged for violin and piano.
\nKrzysztof Penderecki\u2019s 85th birthday was honoured by Deutsche Grammophon in 2018 with a double album including all the works he has dedicated to Anne-Sophie Mutter, including her first recording of the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2: a sensitive and touching homage by the violinist to her musical friend and companion.<\/p>\n
In 2018, Deutsche Grammophon also commemorated the 40-year anniversary of Anne-Sophie Mutter\u2019s first recording by re-releasing her earliest concerto recordings in a deluxe hardcover edition entitled The Early Years \u2013 featuring violin concerti by Mozart (Nos. 3 and 5), Beethoven, Bruch and Mendelssohn. Thanks to the new, high-resolution audio format 2.2 24bit\/192kHz, the listener has the impression of being in the violinist\u2019s immediate vicinity.<\/p>\n
In August 2019, Across the Stars, her album with some of the most brilliant works by the composer and multiple Oscar-winner John Williams, was released, for which Williams adapted most of the recorded works especially for her.<\/p>\n
Anne-Sophie Mutter, Yo-Yo Ma and Daniel Barenboim recorded Beethoven\u2019s Triple Concerto together, celebrating the composer\u2019s 250th anniversary. The album also commemorates the 20-year anniversary of the founding of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. It was released on May 8, 2020, 40 years after the legendary recording of the Triple Concerto by Anne-Sophie Mutter and Yo-Yo Ma under Herbert von Karajan\u2019s baton.<\/p>\n
In August 2020 it was followed by John Williams in Vienna: the legendary American film composer conducted the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time in January 2020; the recording documents this historical performance of film history milestones. For the Musikverein audience, Anne-Sophie Mutter performed a selection of the virtuoso adaptations which Williams created especially for her, including Hedwig\u2019s Theme from Harry Potter, Devil\u2019s Dance from The Witches of Eastwick and the theme from Sabrina. In February 2021 the so-called \u201clive edition\u201d of this concert appeared, including six bonus tracks and John Williams\u2019 remarks from the podium, introducing each work on the Viennese programme.<\/p>\n
\u201cComposed especially for Anne-Sophie Mutter\u201d is the inscription John Williams added to his Violin Concerto No. 2, which the two of them premiered together on July 24, 2021 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In September 2021 the new work was recorded with the same cast as its world premiere, complemented by several new film themes. This CD was released in June 2022.<\/p>\n
November 2022 saw the release of a recording of the Double Concerto by Johannes Brahms with the cellist Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Manfred Honeck, as well as Clara Schumann\u2019s Piano Trio with the pianist Lambert Orkis, her long-time musical partner and friend.<\/p>\n
The first album of her Foundation\u2019s ensemble, \u201cMutter\u2019s Virtuosi\u201d, was released in November 2023. As part of a European tour, Anne-Sophie Mutter and her Virtuosi ensemble gave an impressive performance at Vienna\u2019s Musikverein, forming the basis of this versatile and thoughtful album of music by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Bologne, Andr\u00e9 Previn and John Williams.<\/p>\n
In March 2026, the album East Meets West, the first in their ASM Forte Forward series in collaboration with the Alpha Classics label, will be released. It features compositions by Aftab Darvishi, Unsuk Chin, J\u00f6rg Widmann and Thomas Ad\u00e8s. Awards<\/strong><\/h3>\nIn September 2025, Anne-Sophie Mutter received the Enescu Festival Award for Excellence in Bucharest and the Wolfgang Sch\u00fcssel Prize in Salzburg. In February 2025, Anne-Sophie Mutter was honoured with the Grand Staufer Medal in Gold by Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg’s Minister President Winfried Kretschmann.<\/p>\n
In 2023, the violinist received the Ruhr Piano Festival Prize, and the Royal Philharmonic Society awarded her its Gold Medal. The Krzysztof Penderecki Music Academy in Cracow bestowed an honorary doctorate on her in 2022.<\/p>\n
In 2019, Anne-Sophie Mutter was honoured to receive the Praemium Imperiale in the music category; she received the 2019 Polar Music Prize. Poland awarded the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for Cultural Achievements to Anne-Sophie Mutter in 2018, making her the first German artist to receive such an honour.<\/p>\n
In 2018 the violinist was named an honorary member of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
In 2017 Romania awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of a Grand Officer to Anne-Sophie Mutter and France honoured her by presenting her with the insignia of a Commander of the French Order of the Arts and Literature.<\/p>\n
In 2016 the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports awarded her the \u201cMedalla de oro al M\u00e9rito en las Bellas Artes\u201d (Gold Medal for Merits in the Fine Arts). In 2015, Anne-Sophie Mutter was named an Honorary Fellow of Keble College at the University of Oxford.<\/p>\n
In 2013 she became a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, after winning the medal of the Lutos\u0142awski Society (Warsaw) in January. In 2012 the Atlantic Council bestowed the Distinguished Artistic Leadership Award upon her.<\/p>\n
In 2011 she received the Brahms Prize as well as the Erich Fromm Prize and the Gustav Adolf Prize for her social activism. Sie hat bislang 32 Werke<\/a>\u00a0uraufgef\u00fchrt \u2013 Thomas Ad\u00e8s, Unsuk Chin, Sebastian Currier, Aftab Darvishi, Henri Dutilleux, Sofia Gubaidulina, Witold Lutoslawski, Norbert Moret, Krzysztof Penderecki, Sir Andr\u00e9 Previn, Wolfgang Rihm, J\u00f6rg Widmann und John Williams haben f\u00fcr Anne-Sophie Mutter komponiert.<\/p>Dar\u00fcber hinaus widmet sie sich der F\u00f6rderung musikalischen Spitzennachwuchses und zahlreichen Benefizprojekten. Seit Januar 2022 geh\u00f6rt sie dem Stiftungsrat von Lucerne Festival an. Konzerte 2025<\/strong><\/h3>2025 \u2013 das Jahr vor ihrem 50-j\u00e4hrigen Luzern B\u00fchnenjubil\u00e4um \u2013 spiegelt mit Auftritten in Europa und Nordamerika erneut die musikalische Vielseitigkeit der Violinistin und ihren beispiellosen Rang in der Welt der klassischen Musik wider. Mit zwei Urauff\u00fchrungen von Aftab Darvishi sowie Max Richter stellt Sie ihrem Publikum wiederum neues Repertoire vor.<\/p>
Im April gastiert Mutter in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Lambert Orkis das 37. Jahr ihrer musikalischen Zusammenarbeit einl\u00e4utet. Auf dem Programm stehen Werke von Aftab Darvishi, Mozart, Respighi, Schubert und Clara Schumann: Darvishis neues Werk \u201eLikoo\u201c f\u00fcr Solovioline \u2013 von der Geigerin beauftragt und ihr gewidmet \u2013 erlebt seine Urauff\u00fchrung am 3. April in der Carnegie Hall und ist bei den anschlie\u00dfenden Konzerten Bestandteil des Rezital-Programms in diesem Jahr. Dies ist Mutters erste Urauff\u00fchrung eines Werkes einer iranischen Komponistin. In den kommenden Jahren wird Mutter weiteres Repertoire aus diesem Kulturkreis in ihr Programm aufnehmen.<\/p>
Das Alban Berg Violinkonzert \u201eDem Andenken eines Engels\u201c f\u00fchrt Mutter \u2013 ebenfalls im April \u2013 an zwei Spielst\u00e4tten mit jeweils anderen musikalischen Partnern auf: In Sofia mit dem Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra und dem Dirigenten Michel Tabachnik und in Berlin mit der Staatskapelle Berlin unter der Leitung von Simone Young.<\/p>
Im Anschluss daran konzertiert sie wieder in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Yefim Bronfman und dem Cellisten Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez zwei Schwergewichte der Klaviertrio Literatur auf die B\u00fchne bringt: Beethovens \u201eErzherzogtrio\u201c sowie Tschaikowskis Meisterwerk in a-Moll, op. 50. Dieses Repertoire spielt Mutter auch in Europa \u2013 im Mai mit der Pianistin Lauma Skride und dem Cellisten Lionell Martin, einem Stipendiaten ihrer Stiftung, sowie im Oktober erneut mit Bronfman und Ferr\u00e1ndez.<\/p>
Mit Ferr\u00e1ndez \u2013 ebenfalls Stipendiat der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung \u2013 f\u00fchrt sie im Juni au\u00dferdem das Brahms Doppelkonzert auf: In Monaco mit dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo unter der Leitung von Kazuki Yamada. Dieses Werk haben Ferr\u00e1ndez und Mutter 2022 eingespielt, Manfred Honeck dirigierte dabei die Czech Philharmonic.<\/p>
Im Juli beginnt eine umfangreiche Europa-Tournee mit John Williams\u2019 Violinkonzert Nr. 2 sowie ausgew\u00e4hlten Filmthemen. Das Royal Philharmonic Orchestra begleitet Mutter dabei sowohl bei zahlreichen Open Air Konzerten wie auch in den Konzerts\u00e4len; die erste Tourneeh\u00e4lfte dirigiert die junge s\u00fcdamerikanische Dirigentin Lina Gonz\u00e1lez-Granado, danach kommt Vasily Petrenko ans Pult.<\/p>
Thomas Ad\u00e8s\u2019 \u201eAir \u2013 Homage to Sibelius\u201c, die der Komponist der Geigerin gewidmet hat und die in Rum\u00e4nien sowie Frankreich erstmals zu h\u00f6ren sein wird, sowie Mozarts Violinkonzert Nr. 1 in B-Dur KV207 spielt Mutter im September: In Bukarest und Paris leitet Cristian Macelaru das Orchestre National de France.<\/p>
Ihre weiteren Urauff\u00fchrungen des Jahres 2025 pr\u00e4sentiert Mutter bei der \u201eHommage an Johann Strauss\u201c am 25. Oktober im Wiener Musikverein \u2013 mit einem Werk von Max Richter f\u00fcr Violine und Orchester, einer Bearbeitung einer Strau\u00df-Komposition, sowie einem weiteren Werk.<\/p>
Beim Benefizkonzert f\u00fcr das Mendelssohn-Haus im November spielt Mutter mit Elena Bashkirova sowie erneut Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez \u2013 bei Musik von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Fanny Hensel, Clara und Robert Schumann.<\/p>

Auszeichnungen<\/strong><\/h3>Im Februar 2025 wurde Anne-Sophie Mutter vom Baden-W\u00fcrttembergischen Ministerpr\u00e4sidenten Winfried Kretschmann mit der Gro\u00dfen Staufermedaille in Gold ausgezeichnet. 2023 erhielt sie den Preis des Klavier-Festivals Ruhr und die Royal Philharmonic Society zeichnete die Violinistin mit der Goldmedaille aus.<\/p>
Die Krzysztof-Penderecki-Musikakademie Krakau verlieh ihr 2022 die Ehrendoktorw\u00fcrde. 2019 wurde Mutter mit dem Praemium Imperiale in der Kategorie Musik ausgezeichnet; im Juni erhielt sie den Polar-Musikpreis. Polen verlieh ihr 2018 als erste deutsche K\u00fcnstlerin die Gloria-Artis-Medaille f\u00fcr kulturelle Verdienste in Gold. Im Februar 2018 wurde die Geigerin zum Ehrenmitglied der Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia ernannt.<\/p>
Rum\u00e4nien verlieh Mutter 2017 den Kulturverdienstorden im Rang eines Gro\u00dfoffiziers; im gleichen Jahr ehrte sie Frankreich mit der Verleihung der Insignien eines Kommandeurs im franz\u00f6sischen Orden der K\u00fcnste und der Literatur. 2016 zeichnete sie das spanische Ministerium f\u00fcr Bildung, Kultur und Sport mit der \u201eMedalla de oro al M\u00e9rito en las Bellas Artes\u201c aus.<\/p>
2015 wurde Anne-Sophie Mutter zum Honorary Fellow des Keble College der University of Oxford ernannt. 2013 wurde sie ausl\u00e4ndisches Ehrenmitglied der American Academy of Arts & Sciences, nachdem sie im Januar mit dem Orden der Lutoslawski Gesellschaft (Warschau) ausgezeichnet worden war. 2012 verlieh ihr der Atlantic Council den Distinguished Artistic Leadership Award.<\/p>

\nDuring the Mendelssohn anniversary year of 2009, Anne-Sophie Mutter paid very personal homage to the composer, uniting solo concerto repertoire and chamber music on CD and DVD: the Violin Sonata in F-Major written in 1838, the Piano Trio in D-Minor completed a year later, and the Violin Concerto in E-Minor of 1845.
\nMarch 2010 saw the release of Anne-Sophie Mutter\u2019s recording of the Brahms Violin Sonatas, performed with Lambert Orkis. <\/p>\n
\nIn May 2014 a double CD with recordings by Mutter and Orkis followed, commemorating the 25th anniversary of their collaboration: The Silver Album featuring the first recordings of Penderecki\u2019s La Follia and Previn\u2019s Violin Sonata No. 2.<\/p>\n
\nKrzysztof Penderecki\u2019s 85th birthday was honoured by Deutsche Grammophon in 2018 with a double album including all the works he has dedicated to Anne-Sophie Mutter, including her first recording of the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2: a sensitive and touching homage by the violinist to her musical friend and companion.<\/p>\n
Anne-Sophie Mutter also takes a keen interest in alleviating medical and social problems of our times. She supports various causes through regular benefit concerts.<\/p>\n

Awards<\/strong><\/h3>\nIn September 2025, Anne-Sophie Mutter received the Enescu Festival Award for Excellence in Bucharest and the Wolfgang Sch\u00fcssel Prize in Salzburg. In February 2025, Anne-Sophie Mutter was honoured with the Grand Staufer Medal in Gold by Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg’s Minister President Winfried Kretschmann.<\/p>\n
In 2023, the violinist received the Ruhr Piano Festival Prize, and the Royal Philharmonic Society awarded her its Gold Medal. The Krzysztof Penderecki Music Academy in Cracow bestowed an honorary doctorate on her in 2022.<\/p>\n
In 2019, Anne-Sophie Mutter was honoured to receive the Praemium Imperiale in the music category; she received the 2019 Polar Music Prize. Poland awarded the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for Cultural Achievements to Anne-Sophie Mutter in 2018, making her the first German artist to receive such an honour.<\/p>\n

In 2013 she became a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, after winning the medal of the Lutos\u0142awski Society (Warsaw) in January. In 2012 the Atlantic Council bestowed the Distinguished Artistic Leadership Award upon her.<\/p>\n

Dabei ist die viermalige Grammy\u00ae Award Gewinnerin der Auff\u00fchrung traditioneller Kompositionen genauso verpflichtet wie der Zukunft der Musik.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\u00a0<\/p>

Sie hat bislang 32 Werke<\/a>\u00a0uraufgef\u00fchrt \u2013 Thomas Ad\u00e8s, Unsuk Chin, Sebastian Currier, Aftab Darvishi, Henri Dutilleux, Sofia Gubaidulina, Witold Lutoslawski, Norbert Moret, Krzysztof Penderecki, Sir Andr\u00e9 Previn, Wolfgang Rihm, J\u00f6rg Widmann und John Williams haben f\u00fcr Anne-Sophie Mutter komponiert.<\/p>Dar\u00fcber hinaus widmet sie sich der F\u00f6rderung musikalischen Spitzennachwuchses und zahlreichen Benefizprojekten. Seit Januar 2022 geh\u00f6rt sie dem Stiftungsrat von Lucerne Festival an. Im Herbst 1997 gr\u00fcndete sie den \u201eFreundeskreis Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung e.V.\u201c, dem 2008 die Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung zur Seite gestellt wurde. Konzerte 2025<\/strong><\/h3>2025 \u2013 das Jahr vor ihrem 50-j\u00e4hrigen Luzern B\u00fchnenjubil\u00e4um \u2013 spiegelt mit Auftritten in Europa und Nordamerika erneut die musikalische Vielseitigkeit der Violinistin und ihren beispiellosen Rang in der Welt der klassischen Musik wider. Mit zwei Urauff\u00fchrungen von Aftab Darvishi sowie Max Richter stellt Sie ihrem Publikum wiederum neues Repertoire vor.<\/p>
Im April gastiert Mutter in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Lambert Orkis das 37. Jahr ihrer musikalischen Zusammenarbeit einl\u00e4utet. Auf dem Programm stehen Werke von Aftab Darvishi, Mozart, Respighi, Schubert und Clara Schumann: Darvishis neues Werk \u201eLikoo\u201c f\u00fcr Solovioline \u2013 von der Geigerin beauftragt und ihr gewidmet \u2013 erlebt seine Urauff\u00fchrung am 3. April in der Carnegie Hall und ist bei den anschlie\u00dfenden Konzerten Bestandteil des Rezital-Programms in diesem Jahr. Dies ist Mutters erste Urauff\u00fchrung eines Werkes einer iranischen Komponistin. In den kommenden Jahren wird Mutter weiteres Repertoire aus diesem Kulturkreis in ihr Programm aufnehmen.<\/p>
Das Alban Berg Violinkonzert \u201eDem Andenken eines Engels\u201c f\u00fchrt Mutter \u2013 ebenfalls im April \u2013 an zwei Spielst\u00e4tten mit jeweils anderen musikalischen Partnern auf: In Sofia mit dem Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra und dem Dirigenten Michel Tabachnik und in Berlin mit der Staatskapelle Berlin unter der Leitung von Simone Young.<\/p>
Im Anschluss daran konzertiert sie wieder in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Yefim Bronfman und dem Cellisten Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez zwei Schwergewichte der Klaviertrio Literatur auf die B\u00fchne bringt: Beethovens \u201eErzherzogtrio\u201c sowie Tschaikowskis Meisterwerk in a-Moll, op. 50. Dieses Repertoire spielt Mutter auch in Europa \u2013 im Mai mit der Pianistin Lauma Skride und dem Cellisten Lionell Martin, einem Stipendiaten ihrer Stiftung, sowie im Oktober erneut mit Bronfman und Ferr\u00e1ndez.<\/p>
Mit Ferr\u00e1ndez \u2013 ebenfalls Stipendiat der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung \u2013 f\u00fchrt sie im Juni au\u00dferdem das Brahms Doppelkonzert auf: In Monaco mit dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo unter der Leitung von Kazuki Yamada. Dieses Werk haben Ferr\u00e1ndez und Mutter 2022 eingespielt, Manfred Honeck dirigierte dabei die Czech Philharmonic.<\/p>
Im Juli beginnt eine umfangreiche Europa-Tournee mit John Williams\u2019 Violinkonzert Nr. 2 sowie ausgew\u00e4hlten Filmthemen. Das Royal Philharmonic Orchestra begleitet Mutter dabei sowohl bei zahlreichen Open Air Konzerten wie auch in den Konzerts\u00e4len; die erste Tourneeh\u00e4lfte dirigiert die junge s\u00fcdamerikanische Dirigentin Lina Gonz\u00e1lez-Granado, danach kommt Vasily Petrenko ans Pult.<\/p>
Thomas Ad\u00e8s\u2019 \u201eAir \u2013 Homage to Sibelius\u201c, die der Komponist der Geigerin gewidmet hat und die in Rum\u00e4nien sowie Frankreich erstmals zu h\u00f6ren sein wird, sowie Mozarts Violinkonzert Nr. 1 in B-Dur KV207 spielt Mutter im September: In Bukarest und Paris leitet Cristian Macelaru das Orchestre National de France.<\/p>
Ihre weiteren Urauff\u00fchrungen des Jahres 2025 pr\u00e4sentiert Mutter bei der \u201eHommage an Johann Strauss\u201c am 25. Oktober im Wiener Musikverein \u2013 mit einem Werk von Max Richter f\u00fcr Violine und Orchester, einer Bearbeitung einer Strau\u00df-Komposition, sowie einem weiteren Werk.<\/p>
Beim Benefizkonzert f\u00fcr das Mendelssohn-Haus im November spielt Mutter mit Elena Bashkirova sowie erneut Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez \u2013 bei Musik von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Fanny Hensel, Clara und Robert Schumann.<\/p>

Auszeichnungen<\/strong><\/h3>Im Februar 2025 wurde Anne-Sophie Mutter vom Baden-W\u00fcrttembergischen Ministerpr\u00e4sidenten Winfried Kretschmann mit der Gro\u00dfen Staufermedaille in Gold ausgezeichnet. 2023 erhielt sie den Preis des Klavier-Festivals Ruhr und die Royal Philharmonic Society zeichnete die Violinistin mit der Goldmedaille aus.<\/p>
Die Krzysztof-Penderecki-Musikakademie Krakau verlieh ihr 2022 die Ehrendoktorw\u00fcrde. 2019 wurde Mutter mit dem Praemium Imperiale in der Kategorie Musik ausgezeichnet; im Juni erhielt sie den Polar-Musikpreis. Polen verlieh ihr 2018 als erste deutsche K\u00fcnstlerin die Gloria-Artis-Medaille f\u00fcr kulturelle Verdienste in Gold. Im Februar 2018 wurde die Geigerin zum Ehrenmitglied der Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia ernannt.<\/p>
Rum\u00e4nien verlieh Mutter 2017 den Kulturverdienstorden im Rang eines Gro\u00dfoffiziers; im gleichen Jahr ehrte sie Frankreich mit der Verleihung der Insignien eines Kommandeurs im franz\u00f6sischen Orden der K\u00fcnste und der Literatur. 2016 zeichnete sie das spanische Ministerium f\u00fcr Bildung, Kultur und Sport mit der \u201eMedalla de oro al M\u00e9rito en las Bellas Artes\u201c aus.<\/p>

Mit zwei Urauff\u00fchrungen von Aftab Darvishi sowie Max Richter stellt Sie ihrem Publikum wiederum neues Repertoire vor.<\/p> Im April gastiert Mutter in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Lambert Orkis das 37. Jahr ihrer musikalischen Zusammenarbeit einl\u00e4utet. Auf dem Programm stehen Werke von Aftab Darvishi, Mozart, Respighi, Schubert und Clara Schumann: Darvishis neues Werk \u201eLikoo\u201c f\u00fcr Solovioline \u2013 von der Geigerin beauftragt und ihr gewidmet \u2013 erlebt seine Urauff\u00fchrung am 3. April in der Carnegie Hall und ist bei den anschlie\u00dfenden Konzerten Bestandteil des Rezital-Programms in diesem Jahr. Dies ist Mutters erste Urauff\u00fchrung eines Werkes einer iranischen Komponistin. In den kommenden Jahren wird Mutter weiteres Repertoire aus diesem Kulturkreis in ihr Programm aufnehmen.<\/p> Das Alban Berg Violinkonzert \u201eDem Andenken eines Engels\u201c f\u00fchrt Mutter \u2013 ebenfalls im April \u2013 an zwei Spielst\u00e4tten mit jeweils anderen musikalischen Partnern auf: In Sofia mit dem Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra und dem Dirigenten Michel Tabachnik und in Berlin mit der Staatskapelle Berlin unter der Leitung von Simone Young.<\/p> Im Anschluss daran konzertiert sie wieder in den USA, wo sie mit dem Pianisten Yefim Bronfman und dem Cellisten Pablo Ferr\u00e1ndez zwei Schwergewichte der Klaviertrio Literatur auf die B\u00fchne bringt: Beethovens \u201eErzherzogtrio\u201c sowie Tschaikowskis Meisterwerk in a-Moll, op. 50. Dieses Repertoire spielt Mutter auch in Europa \u2013 im Mai mit der Pianistin Lauma Skride und dem Cellisten Lionell Martin, einem Stipendiaten ihrer Stiftung, sowie im Oktober erneut mit Bronfman und Ferr\u00e1ndez.<\/p> Mit Ferr\u00e1ndez \u2013 ebenfalls Stipendiat der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung \u2013 f\u00fchrt sie im Juni au\u00dferdem das Brahms Doppelkonzert auf: In Monaco mit dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo unter der Leitung von Kazuki Yamada. Polen verlieh ihr 2018 als erste deutsche K\u00fcnstlerin die Gloria-Artis-Medaille f\u00fcr kulturelle Verdienste in Gold.
