“Music is only touching when it tells a story. And I am on the track of upcoming story tellers,” says Anne-Sophie Mutter about the foundation she brought to life. Thanks to the support of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, Daniel M\u00fcller-Schott, Roman Patkol\u00f3, Sergey Khachatryan and Arabella Steinbacher have also become great “story tellers”. Occasionally even at world premieres, because in addition to traditional promotion measures, the Foundation also commissions compositions for its scholarship students. That is why the violinist founded the “Freundeskreis der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung e.V.” [Friends of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation] in 1997. The foundation of the same name with its head office in Munich could be established in 2008: the Foundation’s objective is the global support of young, highly talented violin, viola, cello and contrabass soloists.<\/p>\n “Apart from huge amounts of money being swallowed by the actual education, financing a suitable string instrument often causes big problems. In addition there are respective insurance fees, trips to the world’s famous artists – meetings which are indispensable for the development of a young musician. This may, for example, include tuition with Anne-Sophie Mutter or support in the selection and arrangement of a suitable teacher as well as the provision of instruments, establishing contacts with famous soloists and their master classes or the arrangement of auditions with conductors. “Instead of setting fixed and inflexible rules, I am more concerned with giving every student what he or she needs”, explains Anne-Sophie Mutter, who selects the scholarship students personally.<\/p>\n At the moment, the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation supports ten scholarship students from the USA, Europe and Asia. Since 1997, 27 young musicians have been supported and nine instruments financed from the Foundation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Boston, 19 April 2007: Sir Andr\u00e9 Previn conducts the world premiere of his concerto for violin, contrabass and orchestra with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall. The soloists: Anne-Sophie Mutter and Roman Patkol\u00f3. Previn tailored the work, created by assignment of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, to suit the scholarship student Patkol\u00f3: “Deeply impressed by his skills, I have written him a virtuoso part which no audience has ever heard before”, says the composer. The Previn Double Concerto forms the prelude for further composition assignments, with which the Foundation radically expands the narrow original repertoire for contrabass and thus also for the scholarship student Patkol\u00f3: The “Duo Concertante per violino e contrabbasso” by Krzysztof Penderecki was heard on 9 March 2011 in Hanover for the first time, and Anne-Sophie Mutter has given life to “Dyade” by Wolfgang Rihm for violin and contrabass together with Roman Patkol\u00f3 on 3 April in New York.<\/p>\n As part of the second Mutter\u2018s Virtuosi tour, which included performances in seven cities in Taiwan, China and South Korea in June 2013, the fourth world premiere by Roman Patkol\u00f3 and Anne-Sophie Mutter followed: on June 6, they performed Sebastian Currier\u2019s \u201cRingtone Variations\u201d for the first time \u2013 another work commissioned by the Foundation.<\/p>\n On August 26, 2015 the world premiere of Sir Andr\u00e9 Previn\u2019s Nonet for Two String Quartets and Double Bass followed in Edinburgh. The work was commissioned by Anne-Sophie Mutter for her Virtuosi and is dedicated to the violinist. The instrumentation of this nonet gives current and former scholarship holders of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation new performance opportunities while also expanding the double bass repertoire. She has commenced with the project Mutter\u2018s Virtuosi in the spring of 2011: this new ensemble under the musical management of the violinist consists of current and former scholarship students of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation as well as selected other young musicians. The first tour in 2011 featured stops in eleven European cities. In 2013 the soloist ensemble appeared in Asia. In November 2014 the Mutter Virtuosi will perform in Canada and the USA \u2013 including a concert at the legendary Carnegie Hall. <\/p>\n In the late summer of 2015, the ensemble went on a European festival tour, and in the spring of 2016 the ensemble performed in Barcelona, Aix-en-Provence as well as eight German cities. In October 2016 Anne-Sophie Mutter celebrated the 35th anniversary of her Japanese debut with a tour through Asia with her Virtuosi. <\/p>\n In 2019, Anne-Sophie Mutter toured to South America for the first time together with her Virtuosi, the sixth tour with her Soloists\u2019Ensemble.<\/p>\n The seventh tour took her to 19 European cities in fall 2021 and Anne-Sophie Mutter and her Soloists’ Ensemble embarked on three tours in 2023. April 2007: In der Symphony Hall dirigiert Sir Andr\u00e9 Previn die Urauff\u00fchrung seines Konzertes f\u00fcr Violine, Kontrabass und Orchester mit dem Boston Symphony Orchestra. Die Solisten: Anne-Sophie Mutter und Roman Patkol\u00f3. Das Werk, entstanden im Auftrag der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung, hat Previn dem Stipendiaten Patkol\u00f3 auf den Leib geschneidert: \u201eTief beeindruckt von seinem K\u00f6nnen habe ich ihm einen virtuosen Part geschrieben, wie ihn das Publikum noch nicht geh\u00f6rt hat\u201c, sagt der Komponist.<\/p> Das Previn Doppelkonzert gibt den Auftakt f\u00fcr weitere\u00a0Kompositionsauftr\u00e4ge, mit denen die Stiftung das schmale Original-Repertoire f\u00fcr Kontrabass und damit auch f\u00fcr den Stipendiaten Patkol\u00f3 grundlegend erweitert: Am 9. M\u00e4rz 2011 war in Hannover erstmals das \u201eDuo concertante f\u00fcr Violine und Kontrabass\u201c von Krzysztof Penderecki zu h\u00f6ren und am 3. April hoben Anne-Sophie Mutter und Roman Patkol\u00f3 in New York die \u201eDyade\u201c von Wolfgang Rihm f\u00fcr Violine und Kontrabass aus der Taufe.<\/p> Im Rahmen der zweiten Mutter\u2019s Virtuosi Tournee, die im Juni 2013 in sieben St\u00e4dte in Taiwan, China und S\u00fcdkorea f\u00fchrte, folgte die vierte Urauff\u00fchrung von Roman Patkol\u00f3 und Anne-Sophie Mutter: Am 6. Juni spielten sie in der National Concert Hall Taipei erstmals \u00f6ffentlich die \u201eRingtone Variations\u201c von Sebastian Currier \u2013 auch dies ein Auftragswerk der Stiftung.<\/p> Am 26. August 2015 folgte in Edinburgh die Urauff\u00fchrung von Sir Andr\u00e9 Previns \u201eNonett f\u00fcr zwei Streichquartette und Kontrabass\u201c. Das Werk wurde von Anne-Sophie Mutter f\u00fcr ihre Virtuosi in Auftrag gegeben und ist der Geigerin gewidmet. Durch seine Instrumental-Besetzung er\u00f6ffnet dieses Nonett den aktuellen und ehemaligen Stipendiaten der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung neue Auftrittsm\u00f6glichkeiten und erweitert zudem das Repertoire f\u00fcr den Kontrabass.
