Hwayoon Lee<\/h2>\n

Hwayoon Lee (*1996) already displayed her technical virtuosity on the viola as a child in Korea, but the fact that she was already playing chamber music in public with her teacher Sang-Jin Kim in Seoul at the age of nine is primarily due to her strong stage presence and artistic sensibility. She has been developing this since the age of three in Korean pansori, a special “art of storytelling” in her performances with pansori master Jung-Hae Oh.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Mutter and her foundation provided the young violist with important musical impulses and insights, including during study trips to Vienna and Bonn. After completing her studies in Seoul, the foundation enabled Hwayoon Lee to pursue postgraduate studies at the Kronberg Academy with Nobuko Imai (2017 – 2019) and the concert exam with Hartmut Rohde (2019-2023) at the Berlin University of the Arts. Numerous prizes indicate that her path is a very special one among the violists of our time.<\/p>\n

Hwayoon Lee has been a member of Anne-Sophie Mutter’s soloist ensemble Mutter’s Virtuosi since 2012 and has toured with them extensively over the years. In January of 2023, their most recent tour took Mutter’s Virtuosi from Iceland via Canada to the USA, and in summer of 2023 they toured numerous European cities. Together with Anne-Sophie Mutter, she recorded Schubert’s “Trout Quintet” in 2017. Hwayoon Lee regularly works as a soloist with orchestras, for example in 2014 with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Sinfonia Concertante”). In 2023, Hwayoon Lee performed Shin-uh Lee’s viola concerto “Earth Poem” (2023) with the Korean National Orchestra at the National Theatre of Korea (recorded by Arte TV Korea). In December 2022, she undertook a tour of England with the work “Moon Jar Poem” with the same composer, including for the anniversary of British-Korean friendship in London as part of the Loewe Craft Prize. In October 2023, she played with Anne-Sophie Mutter at Nymphenburg Palace for the birthday of Duke Franz of Bavaria; in November 2023, she performed at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and gave a private recital at the Liederhalle Stuttgart with pianist Thomas Hoppe. In 2023, she also performed at the Seoul Spring Festival, the Kronberg Academy Festival and the Crescendo Festival at the Berlin University of the Arts.<\/p>\n

She will also return to the Seoul Spring Festival in 2024, to the Radebeul Music Festival and to Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. In June 2024, Hwayoon Lee will perform Alfred Schnittke’s “Monologue” for viola and string ensemble with the UdK Orchestra under the direction of Hartmut Rohde.<\/p>\n

Since August 2023, the Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung has made the famous “Cheremetev” viola available to Hwayoon Lee. It was manufactured in 1865 in the Parisian workshop of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. Hwayoon Lee plays a bow made by Benoit Rolland, also on loan from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation.<\/p>\n

Hwayoon Lee<\/h2>

Technische Virtuosit\u00e4t machte Hwayoon Lee (*1996) schon als Kind in Korea auf der Bratsche gro\u00dfen Spa\u00df, doch dass sie schon mit neun Jahren mit ihrem Lehrer Sang-Jin Kim in Seoul \u00f6ffentlich Kammermusik spielte, ist vor allem auch auf ihre starke B\u00fchnenpr\u00e4senz und k\u00fcnstlerische Sensibilit\u00e4t zur\u00fcckzuf\u00fchren. Hwayoon Lee kontaktierte Anne-Sophie Mutter im Jahr 2011 in einem Brief, der zu einer der entscheidenden musikalischen Begegnungen ihres Lebens f\u00fchren sollte. Mutter und ihre Stiftung erm\u00f6glichten der jungen Bratschistin wichtige musikalische Impulse und Erkenntnisse, u.a. bei Studienreisen nach Wien und Bonn. Die Stiftung erm\u00f6glichte Hwayoon Lee nach Abschluss ihres Studiums in Seoul ein Aufbaustudium an der Kronberg Akademie bei Nobuko Imai (2017 \u2013 2019) und das Konzertexamen bei Hartmut Rohde (2019-2023) an der Universit\u00e4t der K\u00fcnste in Berlin. Zahlreiche Preise weisen darauf hin, dass ihr Weg unter den BratschistInnen unserer Zeit ein ganz besonderer ist.<\/p>

Seit 2012 ist Hwayoon Lee Mitglied des Solisten-Ensembles Mutter\u2019s Virtuosi von Anne-Sophie Mutter. Mit diesem Ensemble unternahm sie zahlreiche Tourneen. Die j\u00fcngste Tournee f\u00fchrte sie mit Mutter\u2019s Virtuosi im Januar 2023 von Island \u00fcber Kanada in die USA sowie im Sommer 2023 in zahlreiche europ\u00e4ische St\u00e4dte. Hwayoon Lee arbeitet regelm\u00e4\u00dfig als Solistin mit Orchestern zusammen, so bereits 2014 mit den Bamberger Symphonikern unter Manfred Honeck (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts \u201eSinfonia Concertante\u201c). 2023 hat Hwayoon Lee mit dem Nationalorchester Koreas das Bratschenkonzert \u201eEarth Poem\u201c (2023) von Shin-uh Lee im Nationaltheater Koreas aufgef\u00fchrt (Aufzeichnung durch Arte TV Korea). Mit der gleichen Komponistin hatte sie im Dezember 2022 eine Englandtournee mit dem Werk \u201eMoon Jar Poem\u201c unternommen, u.a. zum Jubil\u00e4um der British-Koreanischen Freundschaft in London im Rahmen des Loewe Craft Prize. Im Oktober 2023 spielte sie mit Anne-Sophie Mutter im Schloss Nymphenburg zum Geburtstag des Herzogs Franz von Bayern; im November 2023 trat sie im Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam auf und gab in der Liederhalle Stuttgart mit dem Pianisten Thomas Hoppe ein privates Rezital. 2023 trat sie ferner beim Seoul Spring Festival, dem Kronberg Academy Festival und dem Crescendo Festival der UdK Berlin auf.<\/p>

Zum Seoul Spring Festival kehrt sie auch 2024 zur\u00fcck; ferner tritt sie beim Musik Festival Radebeul und in Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart auf. Im Juni 2024 wird Hwayoon Lee mit dem UdK Orchester unter der Leitung von Hartmut Rohde Alfred Schnittkes \u201eMonolog\u201c f\u00fcr Viola und Streichensemble auff\u00fchren.<\/p>

Seit August 2023 stellt die Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung Hwayoon Lee die ber\u00fchmte \u201eCheremetev\u201c-Bratsche zur Verf\u00fcgung. Diese wurde 1865 in der Pariser Werkstatt von Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume gebaut. Hwayoon Lee spielt einen Bogen von Benoit Rolland, ebenfalls eine Leihgabe der Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung.<\/p>
