“The Nature of Anne-Sophie Mutter” – a curated selection of her discography on Deutsche Grammophon to mark 50 years on stage and in the recording studio

12.01.26

Berlin, January 12, 2026 – Anne-Sophie Mutter, one of Germany’s most important artists and four-time Grammy winner, will celebrate her 50th stage anniversary and five decades in the recording studio in 2026 and 2027. The anniversary year will feature an extensive, forward-looking programme that underscores her curiosity, commitment, and creative drive for the future of music.

Deutsche Grammophon is marking this milestone with a comprehensive catalogue retrospective, spanning over 40 years of collaboration, tracing the course of this incredible career: reissues of iconic recordings on vinyl and a series of digital albums curated by Anne-Sophie Mutter paint a panorama of her artistic development—from her early recordings under Herbert von Karajan to her most recent recordings.

On February 6, Anne-Sophie Mutter’s first recording, made in 1978, of Mozart’s Violin Concertos Nos. 3 & 5 with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Herbert von Karajan will be released as a new edition with new remastering in the audiophile vinyl series “The Original Source Series.” This was the first collaboration between Anne-Sophie Mutter, then just 14 years old, and Herbert von Karajan, and also her first recording for Deutsche Grammophon.

The “Original Source Series” presents outstanding recordings from the 1970s in a whole new sound quality. To achieve this, the renowned Emil Berliner Studios have remastered and edited the original four- and eight-track tapes in 100% analog quality (AAA) using technologies developed specifically for the production of this series. The differences in sound quality compared to the original releases are considerable: greater clarity, more subtleties and improvements in frequency response, as well as less background noise, distortion and compression, enable an audiophile listening experience like never before.

A series of digital albums, personally curated by Anne-Sophie Mutter, will be released at irregular intervals in 2026 and 2027: Each album will focus on a city with which Anne-Sophie Mutter has had outstanding musical encounters, concerts, and recordings. We will follow the artist “around the globe,” beginning on February 13, 2026, with the album “Anne-Sophie Mutter – My London” and traveling via Berlin, Lucerne, Salzburg, and Vienna to Tokyo and New York. Anne-Sophie Mutter has created completely new albums from recordings that are important to her, which function like small concerts – bringing us closer to the artist and the music capitals of the world.

Furthermore, STAGE+, Deutsche Grammophon’s streaming service, celebrates Anne-Sophie Mutter’s outstanding artistic achievements with an extensive selection of video-on-demand content (exclusive interviews, concerts, documentaries) covering her work with Karajan in the early 1980s and her recent collaborations with film composer John Williams.

“Anne-Sophie Mutter absolutely is a defining artist in the classical-romantic violin repertoire and has been instrumental in expanding it to include modern and contemporary works. Her influence has been formative for my musical socialization and my knowledge of the repertoire, “says Dr. Clemens Trautmann, President of Deutsche Grammophon and New Business Strategy Global Classics,” and her work is exemplary for generations of young musicians, fans, and connoisseurs of classical music. Deutsche Grammophon is proud of half a century of collaboration with this exceptional artist and will keep her rich musical legacy alive through joint communication and new and re-issues. We are pleased to shape the anniversary season in close partnership with Anne-Sophie Mutter and to enable discoveries from her rich discography through innovative campaigns and formats.”
