Honour in Salzburg:On September 19, 2025, Anne-Sophie Mutter was awarded the “Wolfgang Schüssel Prize 2025” by the International Salzburg Association (ISA). The laudatory speech for the prize winner was given by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. This was a very special and successful surprise for Anne-Sophie Mutter and the guests at the award ceremony.

“The award of the Wolfgang Schüssel Prize to Anne-Sophie Mutter by the International Salzburg Association is not only an honor for her artistic achievements, but also a recognition of her commitment promoting young talents. By establishing her own foundation, Anne-Sophie Mutter has made it her mission to promote numerous highly talented young soloists in the fields of violin, viola, cello, and double bass worldwide. Her commitment is reflected in her collaboration with many young musicians, whom she accompanies and supports on their journey,” emphasized Ursula von der Leyen in her laudatory speech.

The Wolfgang Schüssel Prize is awarded to individuals for outstanding achievements at the intersection of business, science, and culture, with a focus on an open, tolerant attitude committed to European culture.

With deep gratitude Anne-Sophie Mutter accepted this award, presented to her by its namesake Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel.

Anne-Sophie Mutter: “This recognition means a great deal to me, not only because of the values it represents, but also because of its strong connection to Salzburg, a city that has played such an immense role in my life and my artistic career.

I feel particularly honored to follow in the footsteps of individuals who have made lasting contributions at the intersection of culture, science, and public life. My sincere thanks go to the jury and to everyone involved in this meaningful award. Salzburg is where my international life on stage began 48 years ago, and it remains a source of inspiration and deep personal connection.

I firmly believe in the power of music to promote dialogue, build bridges and support the next generation. Through my foundation and educational initiatives, I strive to pass on what was so generously given to me as a young artist.

This award strengthens my resolve to continue this mission. Thank you for this extraordinary honor. I look forward to my big 50th anniversary celebration in this beautiful city in 2027!“
